Julia McKee is a Signature member of Oil Painters of America,
Alla Prima International and Plein Air New Mexico. She has been painting for
34 years and has been teaching Plein Air Painting for 30 years. She began teaching
Plein Art Painting 17 years ago. In her workshops, artists learn how to
simplify the landscape into dynamic, well-balanced compositions. Her workshops include the
study of elements and principles of design and explore color harmony, light source and value
relationships. (Go to workshop page for more information.)
Julia travels the US and abroad in search of meaningful subjects for her plein air paintings.
She is inspired by the land's wonderful beauty and the constant change of light and seasons.
"When painting a landscape outdoors my goal is to capture the essence of the scene," says McKee. "Each location has a special beauty' an aura all it's own. It is my hope to translate this aura to canvas so the viewer of my work may experience the beauty that has inspired me to paint it."
